What is your favorite costuming event , futur or past ?

Of the ones I've been to it's definitely Star Wars Celebrations.

 

Which skill do you wish to have or do not control very well?

I'm useless when it comes to working with hard materials. I would love to be able to create my own jewellery or accessories out of all the materials that are out there (sintra/worbla/clay/ and so on)

Silk or art silk?

I don't want to sound elitist, but I've fallen in love with silk. It can be tricky to work with, but it's just so beautiful, both to look at and to the touch.

 

What is the thing you didn't like about sewing and costuming ?

I hate that it's so judgmental, it's so easy finding faults in both our own and others' works. 

 

Are you in a costuming group official or not?

I'm a member of the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, Svenska 1800-talssällskapet, Svenska 1900-talssällskapet and "Skapa historiska kläder och gör något kul" on Facebook.

 

What is the fabric , item or accessories you wish to buy but never did because of the budget?I'm a firm believer that it's impossible to have too many shoes, and if I could I would love to have historically correct shoes for all my costumes.

Where and what is the event of your dream? It used to be Dragon*Con, but nowadays I'm more and more hoping to be able to go to Costume College one day.

The movie or tv serie you love more then other because the costumes are a candy for eyes? I love historical dramas, but one film that I'm very conflicted about, but still watch just because I love the costumes is Gone with the Wind.

When did you start to blog and why?

People were simply asking me to post pictures of my costumes, and I felt that the best way to do that was to make a blog.

Why did you choose sewing and costuming as a hobby?

I like dressing up, and I have a sister that is really good when it comes to sewing. When I started to come up with the idea of creating my own first Star Wars costumes it felt natural that if I wanted to do it then I would of course sew them myself. I had sewn some clothes already when I was a teen, with the help of my sister, so I never thought much about other alternatives if I wanted to dress up.

Post 11 random facts about yourself

1. I used to compete in ski jumping

2. Once upon a time I could play the violin good enough to be a part of the Limerick University Orchestra

3. I've lived in Sweden and Ireland

4. I've studied both Gothic and Old Irish

5. I can get annoyed when people don't realize that there's a difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes (hint, 1 is not lifestyle-related)

6. One day I want to refurbish my kitchen to match a tea container I've gotten from my grandmother

7. Civilian airplanes are much more fascinating than military airplanes

8. I name technical stuff (wifi-networks, computers and so on) after the fandom I'm currently enjoying when I need to set them up.

22. Have you worn cosplay in a regular situation? (eg. at school, to work)

Depends on how you look at it. I have worn historical costumes at work, since I'm working at a museum, so that is actually part of my job. I also have a two red jackets that I call my  "Enjolras" jackets, and I definitely feel like a modern genderbent Les Mis character when wearing them, but that is so subtle that nobody really notices it.

A couple of times I have had to travel in costume to an event, quite easy with the Endor Rebel Trooper, but I that one time I wore my blue Tatooine poncho on a flight from Stockholm to Malmö, and back again, I definitely raised a couple of eyebrows. I think most people thought I was some kind of strange hippie though, not a SW costumer.

Well, I am overweight, and even if people haven't said it straight out to me it's been quite obvious that people don't think I should cosplay Princess Leia. I guess that's the joy of historical costuming, since I'm not portraying a specific individual people are a lot more open to accepting all kinds of body types.

Definitely the two times I've worn my cancan trooper at Star Wars Celebrations. I love the response I get in that costume, especially from women who think it's great to see a "sexy" costume that isn't slutty or just showing off a lot of skin.

My main cosplay events are the Star Wars Celebrations, I've been to all American and European ones since 2005. Then there are quite a lot of smaller events with the Nordic Legions.

As for historical costume events I haven't been to very many, three times at the Sala Silvermine's 18th century celebrations and once to a masked ball. I'm hoping I'll be able to attend more in the future.

The elitism and judgement of others. I've been caught by this as well, not being able to look at someone else without finding faults, and I hate it when I do it. I try to be quiet about it though, except towards a few friends. I really try to go the route of "if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't say anything at all".

I definitely watch a lot of costume dramas while sewing, and not only costume dramas but opera. Opera is perfect, since you can listen to it, without having to watch the screen, but if you want to lift your eyes from the project it gives you something to watch as well. Wagner is also great to keep you awake when a deadline is looming and you start pulling all-nighters to finish.

Is it too easy to say fabric? I've never felt attracted to cosplays/costumes that involve armour or other hard materials, except for corset boning. Even when I did my cancan trooper I bought the helmet, but for the rest I tried to recreate everything just out of fabric.

I will never say never, but I'm very unlikely  to ever make something that mostly consists of armor or other hard parts. I'm a seamstress and I really don't like when I have to go outside my fabric comfort zone. I will probably never cross-dress either. I simply don't think I would make a convincing boy, and I don't think I would have much fun in that either.

One day I am going to make Padmé's picnic gown. I started gathering material more than 10 years ago, so I have the correct sequins, hairbuns and arm wraps. It's just a matter of committing to a large project and go through with it.

I really miss the old days of the Jedi Council Costuming and Props forum. Everyone was there and everyone helped each other. Today when most people, myself included, are mostly focused on their own blogs and FB sites it seems as if there is less of a community out there. I can talk Star Wars over at the Rebel Legion and Nordic Legions forum, and then I belong to a couple of historical costuming facebook groups, I really like the Swedish "Sy historiska kläder och gör något kul" and the "historical sew fortnightly).

Cosplay/Costume meme day 2

2. How many costumes have you done?

This is so hard to answer, especially since I started to go into historical costuming, where it's more like building a wardrobe of things you can match. Anyway I have made 9 costumes that have been accepted in the Rebel Legion/501st Legion, add to that 4 that I never applied with and 1 can-can trooper, that makes 14 Star Wars Costumes. My historical costuming at the moment consists of 4 separate outfits, the revolutionary, the navy anglaise, the printed cotton anglaise and the striped jacket. I also made an outfit for work.  I have made, and cut up by now, 3 other historical costumes, so that makes 8 historical costumes. Then there were the two LOTR-costumes I made for me and my aunt and the Moulin Rouge costume.

That brings the total up to: 25, not including any ballgowns.
